Other than making a few pit stops in Mexico due to family trips via cruise lines to Cozumel for a set amount of hours, I can't say that I had the full experience of Mexico. What I also haven't experienced before was traveling with a significant other! There's always a first for everything, right? My boyfriend (Nigel) and I were going to be traveling during Spring Break, so we definitely wanted to avoid the crazy spring breaker crowd.

Our destination qualifications included:

  • A sunny place
  • Beautiful beaches
  • Amazing food
  • Budget friendly
  • A destination that is more-so on the calmer, relaxing side

After two weeks of officially being together (I know, we a lil cray lol), our adventurous side took the best of us and we eventually picked the wonderful, oh so dreamy . . .

T U L U M ♡

We arrived in Cancun, rented a VW Jetta and our adventure began!

Where to Stay in Tulum, Mexico

Where to eat in Tulum

Where to eat in Tulum?

The Mexican cuisine is colorful, flavorful, fresh and SO affordable. There is nothing that compares to having that hot plate of authentic Mexican food (Especially all the amazing, countless tacos I ate).

Top 3 places that stole my ♡:

  • Tunich: Their coffee. I love a good cup of coffee in the morning! They even offer yummy breakfast all day. The bonus tip for this place is that they have a little opening to walk straight to a beach! An amazing way to start your morning in Tulum and this is how I spent my first morning in Tulum.

  • Tropi Tacos (bottom middle pic): If you want to try the best, authentic tacos in Tulum, this place has the best tacos I have ever had in my entire life. I highly recommend buying several sirloin tacos. SO GOOD.  Not to mention that these tacos are incredibly affordable! Around $10 USD for 5 Sirloin tacos, 3 Chicken tacos, Guac+chips and a large drink.

  • Burrito Amor (top middle pic): I bought a rib eye of beef burrito and loved it! Tasted super fresh, and it was such an authentic touch to wrap the burrito with a banana leaf. I also bought guac+chips and honestly, it was okay. Nothing special, but it was an acceptable appetizer. I paired it with their cocktail Coconut Cool. Still one of the more freshest & best cocktail that I've ever had in my life. SO FRESH!!

What to do in Tulum, Mexico!?

El Gran Cenote

This cenote is a hidden gem. We had a difficult time trying to figure out which cenote to visit because there were SO MANY beautiful cenotes to pick from. We were incredibly happy with our pick! Gran Cenote was a cold swim, but was perfect in the hot weather. The area was unreal and was nothing like I have ever seen in my life, magical even.

Tips:

  • Arrive early to beat the crowd. I definitely recommend visiting at park opening
  • Be sure to have cash on hand. They don't take card (150 pesos each; $8 USD)
  • Bring your own snorkeling gear so you don't have to rent from the facility

Tulum Ruins

The views were absolutely stunning. It was such a cool experience to just stand at the cliff to see the view of the turquoise sea. Being at the Tulum Ruins was absolute paradise!

A 90s inspired swimsuit for my Tulum vacay?

(Got it on Amazon! Click here to check it out♡)

I have never felt more confident in a swimsuit. Probably needed it from all the tacos I ate, but I felt really comfortable in it. Even Nigel complimented me on it, so that's ALWAYS a plus when you get that from your man, right??
